In 2008 he was elected as Assistant Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department of T.E.I. of Crete, while in 2020 he was upgraded at the rank of Full Professor at the same Department of the Hellenic Mediterranean University. He teaches subjects relevant to his field of expertise both in the undergraduate course of the Mechanical Engineering Department and in the Master Course “Energy Systems” of the Hellenic Mediterranean University. He has participated in several administrative positions in the University, while he served as the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department from 2017 to 2021.
The renewable energy sources penetration in insular systems, the design and the development of hybrid power plants, the energy performance evaluation and upgrade of buildings and infrastructures, the smart grids, the social perspectives – benefits and the impacts from the development of renewable energy projects, the combined heat and power cogeneration systems etc are included among his scientific and research interests.
He is the author of 3 books and the co-author of another one in Greek, and one more in English.
He is evaluated in the international database Scopus with 34 articles, 685 citations and h-index of 16 (May 2022). In 2020 he Selected in Stanford University List of Top 2% Scientists worldwide.
He is founding member of the Minoan Energy Community in Crete and member of the Sifnos Energy Community. He was the primary contributor on the development of the Clean Energy Transition Agenda for the islands of Kasos and Symi, while he also contributed for the same task for the islands of Halki and Samos. He was in charge and the primary consultant for a series of hybrid power plant projects in Greek islands (Sifnos, Kasos, Kastelorizo, Samos, Astypalaia, Crete, Agios Efstratios) and energy performance upgrade projects (Pancretan Stadium, Natural History Museum of Crete, Municipal buildings of Rethimno and Kassos, school buildings in all Greece etc).
Dimitris Katsaprakakis
Dimitris Katsaprakakis is a graduate of the Mechanical Engineering School of the National Technical University of Athens (1997). He got his PhD degree from the same School in 2007 on “Maximisation of wind parks penetration in autonomous insular systems”. Since 2001 he worked in a series of research projects in Wind Energy and Power Plant Synthesis Laboratory of the Technological Educational Institute (T.E.I.) of Crete, on scientific topics relevant with the exploitation of Renewable Energy Sources and the Rational Use of Energy.
