It is with great joy that we share with you the update we received today regarding the approval of yet another program, funded by the European Union, exclusively for low‑income large families!

This is a European Territorial Cooperation (Interreg) project with the acronym “EKOΙNO,” which will enable the Minoan Energy Community to design and implement a photovoltaic station of at least 500 kW, with funding of up to 80%. The station will exclusively support low income large families.

Driven by its strong social character, Minoan Energy consistently seeks to support vulnerable households, combat energy poverty, and strengthen rural areas affected by economic and climatic conditions. After all, it is a standing decision of the Community to allocate a portion of the energy produced by every photovoltaic station it develops to vulnerable households—an initiative that has been practically supported and reinforced by the Region of Crete.

However, the approval of a program specifically designed for large families carries an additional symbolic significance, as it responds to the country’s “number one” problem: low birth rates. A problem for which, as a State, we do not seem to have done everything necessary so far.

It is worth noting that EKOΙNO, which now joins a series of other programs of our Community (WENDY, CreteValley, Primary, LifeLOOP), will allow us to fully employ two additional individuals. Beyond their contractual obligations within the program, they are expected to contribute to other activities of the Community as well, without any financial burden on our members.
