Minoan Energy Community's legal battle against large-scale
wind parks in Crete
Summary:
Minoan Energy Community, the largest energy community in Greece, starts the legal battle against two large-scale wind parks' licenses of 1 GW each, owned by two big investors, prolonged by violating essential constitutional principles regarding justice, common benefit, democracy and fair-play.
These licenses, in case of implementation, threaten to transform the Cretan landscape into an industrial zone, affecting dramatically both the natural environment and the existing human activities.
They will also while occupy all the available electrical and geographical space in the island, removing any option for the exploitation of wind or solar energy from local community initiatives and contributing considerably to the cultivation of energy monopolies in Greece.
What are we trying to achieve?
We claim just energy transition and energy democracy in Crete and in all Greek islands.
We want the available geographical and electrical space in Crete to be liberalized from the occupation of these large wind parks' licenses.
We want energy transition in the island to be designed from scratch by the local stakeholders.
We want energy transition projects in Crete to be implemented and owned exclusively by its citizens.
We want energy transition in Crete to be the lever for just, rational and effective social and economic development for all citizens, with equal rights and opportunities for participation for all.
