Another important step toward a just energy transition in Crete!

Through the EKOΙNO project of Interreg VI‑A Greece–Cyprus, the Minoan Energy Community actively participates in an initiative that promotes sustainable development, social engagement, and innovation in the energy sector.

The recent press release outlines the project’s objectives and actions, which aim to strengthen local communities and create a new model of collaborative energy.

More specifically, the project’s activities focus on the creation of social photovoltaic parks for the production of green energy, as well as pilot units for storing the generated renewable energy. At the same time, the project seeks to develop and implement an integrated framework for the involvement of citizens, local authorities, and other stakeholders in the structure and operation of energy communities, as well as in awareness‑raising efforts. Another key objective is to inform, engage, and empower civil society to participate actively in community energy production.

The pilot actions of the project will take place in the Region of Crete and in the community of Linou in Troodos, both of which have distinct energy, social, and environmental characteristics.

More information about the participating partners and the role of Minoan Energy in the project can be found in the related press release here
