Minoan Energy Community plays a pivotal role in the implementation of the European project Crete Valley. Managing the largest budget among all partners, it holds primary responsibility for the practical execution of the energy transition on the ground.
Its main responsibilities include:
- WP5 Leader: Minoan Energy leads Work Package 5, which encompasses the design, licensing, and installation of all Renewable Energy Source (RES) systems within the project.
- Community Energy Lab (CEL) Management: It serves as the manager for two of the four "Community Energy Labs":
- CEL 2 (Lasithi Plateau): Implementation of a biogas-fired Combined Heat and Power (CHP) unit and the installation of photovoltaic systems.
- CEL 3 (Arkalochori): Design and construction of a pioneering biomass-fired district heating network and the development of a 2MW photovoltaic park.
- Promoting Energy Democracy: Utilizing the Virtual Net Billing (VNB) scheme, Minoan Energy ensures that the benefits of clean energy production flow directly back to its members—households, local businesses, and public buildings—drastically reducing energy costs.
- Operational Implementation: The community actively contributes to the evaluation of the project's socio-economic impacts and the development of sustainable business models that will allow the "Cretan example" to be replicated across Europe.
Through its participation, Minoan Energy transforms citizens from simple consumers into active prosumers, strengthening the region's energy autonomy and social cohesion.
