George Arampatzis

Dr. George Arampatzis was born in 1967 in Nea-Vyssa Evrou. In 1991 he received his Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the School of Chemical Engineering of National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), while in 2000 he received his PhD in Engineering from the same School with the title "Simulation of Transport Phenomena in Phase Change Systems". From 1992 to 1998 he worked as a Consulting Engineer at the SPEED Development Consultants S.A. From 2000 to 2014 he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher and from 2014 to 2018 as a Laboratory Teaching Staff at NTUA, School of Chemical Engineering, Energy and Environmental Systems Management Research Unit.

In April 2018, he became a member of the academic community of the Technical University of Crete (TUC), serving as an Assistant Professor of the School of Production Engineering and Management, in the subject area of Heat Transfer. In July 2022 he was promoted to an Associate Professor in the subject area of Heat Transfer and Process Engineering. He teaches the courses Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics in the Undergraduate Study Program and the course Rational Energy Management in Production Systems in the Doctoral Studies Program of the School of Production Engineering and Management, since 2018. He also teaches the ICT in Agriculture and Water Management course at the Mediterranean Agricultural Institute of Chania (CIHEAM MAICh) as a visiting professor, since 2020.
His research interests is formed around four axes, which are the drivers of Sustainable and Resilient Development: Process Engineering, Management of Energy and Environmental Systems, Circular Economy and Smart Digital Technologies. A central pillar of his research project is the application of emerging Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the development of innovative solutions for various production and distribution systems and services with an emphasis on the Industrial sector (Industry 4.0, Industry 5.0). Emphasis is placed on developing advanced process modeling approaches to create industrial digital twins.
He is the founder and scientific coordinator of the Digital and Industrial Innovations Research Group (indigo) (https://www.indigo.tuc.gr/) of the Technical University of Crete, in which more than 15 researchers (faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, PhD candidates and students).
He has participated in more than 30 European and National research projects as Administrator, Principal Investigator and Senior Researcher. He is the Technical and Scientific Coordinator of the Horizon 2020 project AquaSPICE (Advancing Sustainability of Process Industry through Digital and Circular Water Use Innovations) (https://aquaspice.eu/) and Principal Investigator for TUC and MAICh in 7 Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe research projects, with a total budget for the indigo team of 2.6 million euros.
His research activities to date have resulted in 35 publications in peer-reviewed international scientific journals, 50 peer-reviewed conference proceedings, 6 educational books and 3 chapters in edited books. His published work has received 1057 citations with h-index 16 and i10-index 17 (Google Scholar 16/08/2022).
He is a founding member and Coordinator of the Academic-Public-Private Partnership, In-Crete, (https://www.in-crete.eu/) with the participation of all academic/research institutions of (Technical University of Crete, University of Crete, Hellenic Mediterranean University, Foundation for Research & Technology Hellas, Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania, Higher School of Tourism Education of Crete and the Italian IT company Maggioli), with the aim of promoting circular economy actions in Crete.
He is a member and actively participates in the European networks ICT4Water Cluster (ICT for water resources management) (https://www.fiware4water.eu/ict4water) and BRIDGE European Commission Initiative (smart grids, energy storage, energy islands and ICT in energy) (https://www.h2020-bridge.eu/). He is responsible on behalf of the Technical University of Crete for the Lighthouse Mission Process Automation and Industry 4.0 of EURECA-PRO (partnership of 7 European Universities for responsible consumption and production) (https://www.eurecapro.eu/).
