The President of Minoan Energy, Mr. Giannopoulos, addressed the Standing Committee on Production and Trade of the Hellenic Parliament.
The session of 22 April focused on the draft law of the Ministry of Environment and Energy concerning the response to the multi‑level impacts of climate change, including issues related to energy security.
With a concise and well‑documented intervention—and representing not only Minoan Energy, the largest energy community in Greece, but also the DESMI network, which includes all genuine broad‑based energy communities—Mr. Giannopoulos highlighted the distortions of the current legislative framework and submitted concrete proposals for its improvement.
He referred to the need to support vulnerable households, large families, and very small businesses, which often operate as extensions of the family unit, as well as to the importance of addressing energy poverty, which, although widespread, is difficult to detect and record.
Among the specific proposals he submitted were priority access to grid connection terms from HEDNO for Energy Community projects, support for the implementation of municipal energy‑transition plans, and facilitation by the State in completing European programmes in which Energy Communities participate, channeling European resources into the local economy.
Finally, he referred to the defining characteristics of genuine Energy Communities and called for the establishment of the term “Open Broad‑Based Energy Communities.”
Minoan Energy will continue to support the institution of Energy Communities from every platform available, as it believes they constitute the most reliable vehicle for a fair and inclusive energy transition, both in Greece and globally.
