The Region of Crete, the most prominent member of Minoan Energy Community, now uses its own electricity to electrify its main building in Heraklion

On the occasion of the global environment day, the Regional Authority of Crete and the Minoan Energy Community celebrated in common with the illumination of the Authority’s central building in the Liberty Square in Heraklion, in the evening of the Friday, the 3rd of June 2022. In this event, it was announced and communicated to the public that this historical and emblematic building will be powered by the first photovoltaic plant of Minoan Energy Community for the next 25 years, through its operation under the net metering mode.

Minoan Energy Community, the first energy community in Crete, completed the construction of the 405 kW photovoltaic plant, with the Regional Authority of Crete being involved in the Community as an official member, paving the way towards the sustainable energy transition.

The essential speakers in the event were the Governor of Crete Mr. Stavros Arnaoutakis and the Head of the Minoan Energy Community Mr. Charalampos Giannopoulos.

The common initiative of the Regional Authority of Crete and the Minoan Energy Community praised in their short interventions the members of the Greek Parliament Mr. Vasilis Kegkeroglou and Mr. George Logiadis, as well as the Vice Governor of Crete Mr. Nikos Kalogeris. The member of the Greek Parliament Mr. Maximos Senetakis also attended the event.

Finally, the event honored with their presence representative of the Archbishopric, Mayors of the local Municipalities, Vice Governors of Crete, the Head and the members of the Regional Council, executive members of local authorities and stakeholders, members of the Minoan Energy Community and a lot of people, interested in being informed on energy communities.
