Public Outreach Events in the Areas Included in the Crete Energy Valley

The first series of information events has been completed in three regions of Crete that form the island’s first Energy Valley, within the framework of the Crete Valley project.

For three days, from 22 to 24 May, the Minoan Energy Community, the Region of Crete, and the Municipalities of Minoa Pediada, Oropedio Lasithiou, and Viannos, which were responsible for the organization, offered residents the opportunity to learn about the benefits the project brings to local communities and to express their interest in participating.

The planned energy infrastructures employ cutting‑edge technology, make use of each area’s specific energy resources, and respond to their unique climatic conditions. Another innovation of the project lies in the social‑inclusion methodologies applied, ensuring that the end users of these infrastructures also act as co‑designers of the final solution.

For the Minoan Energy Community, being close to local societies—discussing, collaborating, and co‑shaping decisions—is a constant priority, as only through the power of collective effort can we address the challenges of our time.

Naturally, such innovative projects could not progress without the invaluable contribution of all 41 project partners, representing a wide range of scientific expertise. Many of them were present during the three‑day events, which also included field visits to the designated equipment sites. Among them were the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) of the National Technical University of Athens, the Hellenic Mediterranean University, the National Centre for Research and Technology, as well as companies with strong technical know‑how such as SYCHEM, SYNERGY, and HOLISTIC.

Our Community’s outreach initiatives will continue, both through public events and face‑to‑face meetings, ensuring that no citizen of Crete is excluded from the opportunities offered by the energy transition.
